A few kilometers from the Solar Egas Moniz, you’ll find two ancient preserved villages: Quintandona (6 km from the Solar) and Cabroelo (14 km from the Solar).
The village of Quintandona, in the parish of Lagares (Penafiel), is one of the few typical villages of Portugal. Here, tradition and authenticity still live... With constructions of slate and schist, surrounding agriculture and forestry activities, its people still live off the land. We recommend a pedestrian route from the village to Monte da Pegadinha, where you will find a belvedere and a unique natural landscape! Not to be missed in September, the "Quintadona’s broth festival" is dedicated to local cuisine and traditional Portuguese music and performing arts.
The village of Cabroelo is located in the parish of Chapel (also Penafiel). You will find a rural village of houses built on granite, schist and granaries, threshing floors of wood, with a natural landscape of the breathtaking Serra da Boneca and the Rio Mau valley.
